For Reverend Fred
For those of you who do not know me, my name is Rev. Barry King.
Whenever, Rev. Cale introduced me it was as a member of the Rev.
Barry and Rev. Sandi team from Prince Edward Island. Just as you
could not think about Fred without thinking about the other member
of his team, his wife, Jeanine,- Sandi and I have always been
blessed with the other member of our team. Therefore,, the words
I would like to share with you are spoken on behalf of both Sandi
and myself.
A few years ago, Rev. Cale shared with me an experience he had
at a funeral he had performed. He commented on the fact that while
doing the funeral he watched the lady who the funeral was for
move through the congregation consoling those gathered. He expressed
his sadness that the family could not see their dear loved one
that they could not feel her kiss or know with certainty that
she was alive and well in Spirit. This is one of the many things
that Fred has given us. Fred helped me gain the certain knowledge
that there are no dead. That to die is to be re-born. So to begin,
the first thing I should say is
Hi Fred.
I know that you are with us, tonight. I know that you are sharing
your strength and love with those gathered here. I know that you
have taken time from what I am sure is a busy schedule doing things
for people in the Heaven world to come and be with us. I know
that you are probably doing a dance up here because you're feet
are not bothering you and you are free of pain. I know that you
are happy and whole.
I note that it is not that I hope, or think, or have faith that,
or wish that you are alive and well in Spirit. It is that I know.
I know. Thank you for that gift.
What do you say about someone who is so many things to you?
For Sandi and I, Fred was our minister, our teacher, our mentor,
our counsellor, our friend. Fred was family. He was a spiritual
father for both Sandi and me.
He was an example for us of humility and of the path of service.
He taught us the value of giving without expectation of receiving.
Few know how much Fred gave of himself for others. He seldom spoke
of the many acts of kindness and generosity he did. He did them
quietly and with dignity. Fred gave freely of his time and energy.
If there was someone in need and Fred could help, he would. Many
times he was called to be with those in crisis and he never hesitated
even if it was in the middle of the night.
When
Sandi was diagnosed with cancer ten years ago, Rev Cale was a
source of strength and inspiration for both of us. He kept a positive
perspective and never clouded things with negativity or fear.
He understood the power of your thoughts. Rev Cale was always
there offering support when there was a crisis. When my sister,
Lisa, was diagnosed with cancer, a year ago, Fred was there to
bring healing and support to Lisa and the family. I know that
when Lisa died just last week, Fred (Rev Cale) was waiting for
her with my father Harry to welcome her into the heaven world.
His ministering continues.
As a teacher, Fred was exceptional. He was patient, firm and
informed. He lead you to learning and taught by example. There
were many times, I called Fred for guidance. He always had time.
The path of service both Sandi and I have chosen is in part because
of Rev Cale. He was a good model. He approached the ministry with
professionalism and respect. He was always in a suit. He always
treated people as he would hope to be treated -professionally
and with respect.
For example, early in my career in the ministry, I took the platforrn
decorum workshop. The class was Fred's way of ensuring high standards
of those representing the Fellowship on the platform. The workshop
taught a number of standards for both your actions and your dress.
If you came in jeans to the service, you would not be allowed
on the platform. It was about respect. Respect for yourself and
for the ministry. He also taught us valuable standards for working
with Spirit and sharing our gifts.
We will miss our long talks. We hope he continues to teach me
from the heaven world, because we still had so much we could learn
from him.
Fred was mentor to Sandi and 1. We learned so much by just watching
him and being with him. He had great dignity and in many ways
held to very traditional values. I have never known Fred to say
anything negative about anyone. He was very kind and spoke his
truth. He never talked about people - he talked to them. If Fred
had a problem with something you were doing he would tell you
- gently but firmly. People didn't always like that which is unfortunate
because we can learn so much from that kind of gentle open honesty.
He didn't agree with everyone and that was OK. He recognized that
we are all on our own path. Fred did not feel it was his place
to judge.
As a counsellor Fred was masterful. He was one of the best listeners
I have ever known. He could listen to a situation and the give
you guidance without robbing you of your choices. He taught many
the value of doing the right thing for the right reason. Fred
had a way of reducing an issue to a simple truth.
I hope that the phone lines in heaven are well maintained. I
know Fred's lines are always going to be busy.
We are privileged to have been able to call Fred our friend.
He had a wonderful sense of humour. Some may have said he had
a dry sense of humour and I guess at times it did sneak up on
you. He got joy out of the smallest of things.
To
all of us, Rev. Cale and the ministry are inseparable. Rev. Marilyn
Rossner a number of years ago gave Fred a key. For his, this key
was very precious and changed his life. It was the key which opened
the doors to understanding a world unseen by most but experienced
by all. Fred who was a gifted medium accepted that key with great
enthusiasm and developed his Gifts. In time, Fred became Rev,
Dr. Cale, the first ordained minister of the Spiritual Science
Fellowship. His dream was to share the key and open the door 's
of perception so all those who wished could experience the unseen
world and know that there is no death and that the world of Spirit
is accessible to all.
Rev Cale (Fred) dedicated his life to the Spiritual Science Fellowship
- the Interfaith Ministry. He came to Halifax with nothing but
a dream and in the face of intolerance began building a full time
ministry. It was a daunting task and he faced it with determination
and courage. Financially it was Fred who sustained the ministry
over the years and not the ministry which sustained Fred. Foremost
for Fred, the ministry was about helping people and sharing a
precious message. It was not about commercialism or sensationalizing
the gifts of spirit. It was about acknowledging our spiritual
heritage. Few have the courage, conviction and dedication to follow
a dream with the integrity that he showed us.
Fred's dream is now our dream. Sandi and I are part of Fred's
Legacy. We will continue to build a ministry where all are welcomed
and fear is not a toot of faith. We promise you, Fred, that we
will work to ensure that its foundations are strong. That as you
did, we will continue to light as many sparks of awareness as
we can. That we will work to share the key you have placed in
our keeping. The message is a simple one - There are many paths
but one truth - love thy neighbor.
Thank you Fred for sharing with us the gift of knowing that there
is no death. That you are here tonight alive and well. We love
you and miss you even though we feel your presence. We miss you
even though you tell us everything is super. Thank you for being
part of our lives.
Love you and God Bless
Revs Barry & Sandi
